Hotel California

Stanley's Hotel, Beth's Blog

This was the first site that grabbed my eye, and I LOVED what was done with the urban legend compilation. Combined with the eeriness of the Overlook Hotel feel, and excellent picture choices, this site was both spooky and delightful. I may steal this idea for urban legends re-imagined at some point during this semester. I'm a big fan of haunted hotel stories (Room 1408, The Shining, basically any hotel in New Orleans), and the writing was clear and simple and chilling. I'm really excited about getting into Myth-Folklore, which was what I originally wanted last semester even though I thoroughly enjoyed Indian Epics. This Hotel California storybook is exactly why! So many options to choose from for content and original material.

HinduLoverOnline
This was a great way to showcase all of my favorite people from the Indian Epics class I took last semester, and I was pleasantly surprised at how easily their stories were ported into a dating site format. The design was really good, and the site kind of has that "questionable popup ad" feel to it, which was a great subtle effect on the part of the author. I also loved Kamadeva's success stories blurb, mostly because that's what you'd find on any eHarmony or OKCupid sort of place, and that was another chuckle.

Alice in Relations
It was the premise of this storybook that caught me: Alice with a Wonderphone in modern times. A master remote for the world around you is what spawned that questionable Adam Sandler flick, but the way the author used the concept was creative and potentially more logical that Carroll's original drug-induced series of events. I also LOVED the idea of a "LookingGlass" also existing in a Wonderphone concept, which reminded me tremendously of the show Black Mirror, my favorite dystopian and chillingly depressing near-future television show.
